Three drive concepts, two types of springs – and one certainty: the Amarok offers the best off-road characteristics.Wherever your destination, the Amarok will take you there. Three drive concepts and two types of springs are available. - Rear-wheel drive: during acceleration, the vehicle weight is transferred backwards and the rear wheels have optimised road contact. In addition, rear-wheel drive is not subject to steering torque influences and has a smaller turning circle.
- Selectable 4MOTION all-wheel drive: 4MOTION drive ensures reliable traction on varying surfaces. It distributes 50% of engine power to each of the axles to improve forward motion – particularly in poor weather conditions. On difficult terrain and steep inclines, a reduction gear can be engaged. The electronic stabilisation programme remains active when all-wheel drive is engaged.
- Permanent 4MOTION all-wheel drive: this 4MOTION drive with Torsen differential makes optimum use of the dynamic advantages of all-wheel drive and is suitable for both on and off-road driving.
You have the choice of comfort or heavy-duty leaf springs. With comfort leaf springs the Amarok has the handling characteristics of a saloon. Heavy-duty leaf springs offer a high level of safety for high loads and have such a robust construction that they master even rough terrain with ease. Which combination do you need? Your requirements are paramount: the Amarok offers exactly what you need – the different combinations of types of drive and springing are suitable for a variety of different uses.
| There’s so much to discover – on and off the road.4MOTION all-wheel drive makes the Amarok a perfect off-road vehicle, nor is it daunted by inclines, surfaces with a lateral tilt or bumps, or when crossing water up to 500 mm deep. Hard terrain is easy for the Amarok – due to numerous safety and assistance systems. ABS and a new generation of ESP with hill holder and hill descent assist help you to cope with critical driving situations. When braking in extreme off-road conditions, ABS builds up small wedges – of sand or gravel for instance – in front of the tyres. This shortens braking distances significantly without impairing manoeuvrability. |
Hill-climbing ability. The Amarok can climb any mountain and carry your load at the same time. Even with a trailer weight of 2.8 t, the Amarok can overcome 12% gradients - and, with a load of 1 tonne, hill gradients of 100% (45°).
| Approach and departure angles and wading depth. The Amarok can brave steep hills and deep puddles. It has an impressive approach angle of 28°, a departure angle of 23.6° (28° without bumper), and a wading depth of 500 mm. |
Side slope angle. The Amarok has an affinity for extremes. It can handle roads with a lateral tilt of approx. 50° 1), 2).
| Ramp angle. The Amarok takes you safely over sticks and stones – and over significantly bigger obstacles too. With a ramp angle of 23° 1) not even tree trunks or rocks pose a problem. |
