Your home on wheels: as secure as your house.
The security and driver assistance systems:- Side Assist: which helps you when changing lanes, has radar sensors to monitor traffic. When you change lanes, the system will warn you via a visual signal in the door mirrors if another vehicle is identified in the area surrounding the blind spot.
- Turning light: integrated in the headlamps lights up curves and bends
on the road when you make a turn at 40 km/h or less. This allows you to anticipate possible risks sooner and ensures that you arrive safely. - Rear Assist: The rear view camera Rear Assist gives you an optimised view of the area behind your California. Coloured lines on the display of your RNS 510 Radio Navigation System indicate the route for reverse parking.
When you’re in the California, you should not only feel comfortable, but safe, too. An innovative safety concept supports you while you drive and aims to protect you from injuries as much as possible in the event of an accident. The cruise control allows you to select and set a speed of 30 km/h or more. The parking assistance system Rear Assist displays pictures taken by the rear view camera on your RNS 510 Radio Navigation System to offer you an improved view of the area behind your vehicle. | |
| Side Assist and Rear Assist keep an eye on the area behind your vehicle and the ParkPilot helps you with manoeuvring and parking. The safety concept also includes a turning light for blind curves and intersections as well as standard airbags for the driver and front passenger. |
The headlights come with a coming/leaving home function and automatically switch on when it gets dark to illuminate the area when you get in and out of your vehicle. The California also has trailer stabilisation, which helps you keep the vehicle under control even when towing a heavy trailer by counteracting fluctuations in the movement of the trailer. Speed-dependent control for power assisted steering is available as an option. Power assistance is greatest at low speeds: it facilitates comfortable driving with low effort when manoeuvring, turning off, or steering on narrow bends. Power assistance is reduced as speed becomes higher which contributes towards increasing driving safety. In comparison with conventional power assisted steering, Servotronic with speed-dependent control offers greater steering precision at higher speeds.

| Nature is beautiful – even if it occasionally surprises us with pouring rain, slippery roads and thick fog. You don’t have to worry about this as you can be sure of all-round protection in the California. It’s equipped with the Electronic Stabilisation Programme (ESP), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Differential Lock (EDL) as standard. |
- When the vehicle weight is transferred to the front wheels during braking, the Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBV) prevents lock-up of the rear wheels, which are under less pressure. This way, you can remain safely on course in your lane of traffic.
- The seat belt warning reminds the driver that his or her seat belt is not fastened. An audiovisual signal is used to request that the seat belt is fastened before you start driving.
- The Electronic Stabilisation Programme (ESP), including hill holder, prevents the vehicle from swerving in critical driving conditions by controlled and targeted intervention in the brake and engine management. Thus, the vehicle achieves maximum directional stability.
- The tyre monitoring display activates a warning signal to report changes in pressure in any of the four tyres. This lets the driver know that the tyre pressure should be checked as soon as possible.
- The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) prevents wheels from locking up and therefore significantly improves the manoeuvrability of the vehicle when braking hard.
- The Brake Assist system recognises the speed at which the brake pedal is actuated. In the case of reflex or emergency braking, the system applies full brake pressure more rapidly.
